Mt. Zion United Methodist Church

::: Brief Overview :::
Services:11 a.m. each Sunday
Bible Study:Wednesday evenings
Pastor:Rev. Dr. Ernie D. Elder
Location:2223 West 500 North; West Lafayette, IN 47906

::: Services Information :::
Our Sunday services begin at 11 a.m. and children are included in the Sunday worship services. They enjoy sharing in the singing, lighting of the candles, participating in communion, collecting offerings, and more. During the middle of the service, Pastor Ernie invites them to the front for a “Children's Sermon” after which they are dismissed for their own classes in the Education Wing. Children remain in the sanctuary during the first Sunday of each month. This gives them the opportunity to take communion and the teachers a respite. Special services and holidays tend to be very visual and our children are included in these services as well.

::: “Earth Angels” and “Saints” :::
November 1 was All Saints Day and we had a ceremony during our regular church services for those that have passed on and are considred saints to members of our congregation. On this page we have those that have passed on and those that are still living with us today and considered earth angels. We hope that you will enjoy reading their stories and why they are special to members of our congregation. Please take some time to check out our Saints page.

::: Home Study and Prayer Group :::
The Wednesday Evening Home Study meets Wednesdays at 7 p.m. During the summer time, when there is good weather, the group goes for walks instead of studying a specific book. We meet in members' homes. Although the study is open to anyone, at the current time we have 6-7 women attending ranging in age from 30 - 60. Children are welcome. In addition to being a time of study, the Home Study also provides fellowship and concludes in prayer. Please feel free to call Mary Sell at 497-2232 with any questions.

::: Pastor's Corner and Youth Spot :::
Pastor Ernie has his own corner on our website and we'll be adding a couple of sections for the youth in our church. You can find the Pastor's Corner by clicking Here. His page has been updated for the holiday season of 2008. There also also been a picture of Pastor Ernie and his beautiful new wife added to the page. We hope you will join us in congratulating them! If you have any questions for Pastor Ernie, you can send e-mail to the webmaster and put Pastor Ernie in the subject and she will forward it to him. Our Youth will be having a couple of different spots in the near future: one will be a corner where they can share things that they enjoy doing, books they enjoy reading, hobbies they have and then we will also be adding pictures from the outings that they have during the year. The pictures will be added under the Photo Gallery (link on the left).

::: Movie Reviews :::
Interested in seeing some movies that our congregation has seen and interested in what they thought of them? We currently have two movies that have been reviewed. The first is the movie “Amazing Grace” and was reviewed by Pastor Bill Johnson of Avon United Methodist Church and is reprinted with his permission. You can read that review by clicking here. In addition, we have added a review of a family movie “Facing the Giants” by one of our members (Mary Sell), available at the Tippecanoe Library. You can read her review by clicking here.

Salute the last and evrlasting day,
Joy at the uprising of this Sun, and Son,
Ye whose just tears, or tribulation
Have purely washed, or burnt your drossy clay;
Behold the Highest, parting hence away,
Lightens the dark clouds, which treads upon,

Nor doth he by ascending, show alone,
But first he, and he first enters the way.
O strong Ram, which hast battered heaven for me,
Mild Lamb, which with thy blood, hast marked the path;
Bright Torch, which shin'st, that I may see,
Oh, with thy own blood quench thy own just wrath,
And if thy holy Spirit, my Muse did raise,
Deign at my hands this crown of prayer and praise.
